Teeing Off

Golf in the Lower Hudson Valley, from high schools to the pros

Curiously enough

June
15

Frank Bensel was in the last group of the morning going off hole No. 1. Johnson Wagner is in the first group of the afternoon going off No. 10.

What it means is that when Wagner teed off just now, he did so directly behind Bensel, who just made the turn at 11-over (he double bogeyed 9). The two locals had most likely last overlapped in the 2002 Met Open at Winged Foot, which Wagner won.

By the way, big debate going on in the office between whether to call Bensel a Yonkers native since he was actually born there, or a White Plains native since that’s where he grew up.

Interestingly, the last time we had this debate was with Wagner, who was born in Amarillo, Texas, but spent his formative years in Garrison. It’s all very fascinating, I know.
