Mike Miller of Brewster and Mark Mumford of Rye learned their tee times for next week’s U.S. Junior Championship at Trump National Golf Club in Bedmister, N.J.
In Monday’s first round, Miller will tee off the first hole at New Course at noon. Mumford will be on the 10th hole of the New Course at 1:30.
On Tuesday, they’ll both be on the Old Course. Miller will start on hole No. 10 at 7 a.m. Mumford will begin on the first hole at 8:30.
This is wonderful news, especially if you’re me serving as the reporter covering the event. I’ll be out there all week and am anxious to see how these two perform. Both played really well in the state high school tournament and have legitimate shots to reach the match-play round of the U.S. Junior, which starts on Wednesday.
Miller, by the way, will be playing with a golfer from the Czech Republic. Should be interesting. I’ll post more information about the tournament, and course, over the next few days.

In recognition of her two decades of volunteer service, Pat Saunders of Rye was honored with the Digger Smith Award last night by the AJGA during a dinner held in conjunction with the McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls Championship at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa.
The award is given annually to a person who dedicates time and energy to junior golf.
Saunders helped bring AJGA events to Apawamis Club, Westchester Country Club, Ardsley Country Club and Bethpage State Park. She currently serves on the organization’s board of directors.
“I have been honored to work with the AJGA for the last 20 years,” she said. “I have made great friends among the AJGA staff and am proud to be associated with the world’s premier golf association.”

Bob Miller Jr. is going to remember the details of this day for quite a while.
The head pro at Knollwood shot a 74 in the opening round of the Journal News WGA Open Championship, but he wasn’t concerned about his scorecard.
For the first time, Miller got to play in a competitive tournament with his son, Mike.
“When I called up for our tee times, they had us playing back-to-back,” he said. “I was like, ‘You can’t do that to me.’ I would be too worried about what he was doing so they moved me back a couple of groups. Even so, every three or four holes, I was trying to see how he was doing.”
It was a long day on the greens for Mike, who shot a 75 and missed the cut by a stroke.
To prepare for the round, the Millers squeezed in 18 holes on Sunday at Knollwood in between lessons and and other club duties. They headed in and out, playing a couple holes at a time.
“I came back in with a couple of holes still to play up four, but he wound up beating me by one,” Bob said. “We started at 1:30 and finished at 7:15. Today was fun. I was hoping he’d play better.”
There might have been a minor disagreement on the way home, though.
Mike wants to come back tomorrow and caddy for his father. Bob wants his son to pay a visit to Engineers Country Club to prepare for the MGA Junior Championship, which starts Wednesday.

Long Island. Golf. Rain.
Does that sound familiar? Weather delayed the second round of the Ike Championship here at Nassau Country Club for about 90 minutes. Less than a third of the field was in.
We should have the leaders back on the course for Round 3 within the next hour. Chris DeForest of Rondout leads at 4-under 136.
There are just a couple of locals within range.
Michael Quagliano of GlenArbor got in about five minutes before the storm. He shot a 2-under par 68 to move into contention at 141. David Weisfeld of Scarsdale is at 141 after shooting 71 for the second round in a row. Max Buckley of Westchester Hills is at 145.
Here’s the MGA leaderboard if you want to follow along.
