Nicole Morales became the youngest player to win a non-junior MGA title when she won the Women’s Public Links Championship today at Hudson Hills Golf Course. She turned 14 only a month ago. Allison Oakes was a year older when she won the same event in 2007.
The scorecard was downright impressive, too.
Morales carded a 3-under par 68 and beat Daria Cummings by four shots. And to celebrate, she headed north to Centennial Golf Club and was racing to sneak in nine more holes before the daylight ran out.
“It was kind of dumb luck,” she said of the round.
Clearly, there was plenty of skill involved, too.
“My putter was my best friend,” said Morales, who’s going to be a freshman at John Jay in the fall. “It came back from Bermuda with an amazing tan. I rolled in three birdie putts from outside 25 feet and had some good par saves. Everything was going in.”
