It only took a couple of holes in the middle of the final round for Danny Balin to leapfrog the leaders, and the Burning Tree assistant hung on to win the Lincoln Met PGA Championship. He’s probably awfully happy it’s raining today, as well. Balin helped the U.S. beat Great Britain and Ireland in the PGA Cup on the other side of the country over the weekend, then jetted home to play this event.

There were a lot of strong players in the field, but only Balin finished in the red. Old Oaks has to rank among the most difficult short courses (6,600 yards) in the country when the greens are rolling like they were this week. After what’s been a difficult season agronomically, it was nice to real speed.
