Mike Miller, the reigning Met Amateur champion, got more than a taste of true links golf while competing in The Lytham Trophy at Royal Lytham & St. Annes in England. He was among three Americans in the field. The 20-year-old Brewster resident finished in a fourth-place tie with France’s Paul Barjon at 6-over 286.
Daniel Huizing of the Netherlands was 7-under and ran away with the win. He was the only golfer in the red.
Miller will next be representing Knollwood Country Club at the Irish Amateur Open Championship this week at Royal Dublin Golf Club.
He also stayed busy over the winter, playing in the New Year’s Invitational at St. Petersburg Country Club and finished tied for 21st. Miller tied for fourth at the Azalea Invitational at the Country Club of Charleston, finishing tied for fourth. He also played in the Terra Cotta Invitational at Naples National and tied for second. He’s accepted invitations to play in the Sunnehanna Amateur in Johnstown, Pa. the Porter Cup at Niagara Falls Country Club and the Northeast Amateur at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rhode Island.
