It was scary good golf all the way around.
Mike Miller beat Cameron Young 5 and 4 this afternoon to win the Westchester Golf Association’s 93rd Amateur Championship at Rockrimmon Country Club. How impressive where they over 32 holes? Miller was 12-under. Young was 8-under. They had everyone watching shaking their heads in disbelief.
“It’s fun playing against Mike,” said Young, the 15-year-old from Sleepy Hollow who won the event a year ago. “We always seem to play well in matches together.”
There is some history.
Miller and Young where a combined 9-under in a semifinal match last year at the Westchester Am, and they were a combined 10-under in a quarterfinal match last year at the Met Am.
“It’s crazy to think he’s only 15,” Miller said. “The sky’s the limit for him, so I’m glad I got him today.”
Sunningdale’s Jon Groveman won his second Westchester Senior Amateur title with a 2 and 1 win over Winged Foot’s Joe Sommers. Wykagyl’s Peter Friedes beat Brooklawn’s Kenneth Luczaj to win the super seniors championship.
