Pound Ridge Golf Club is the most polarizing course in the region, I know, and this kind of attention drives the conversation. A list of U.S. Open-worthy public courses in this month’s GOLF Magazine leads off with the pricey and difficult Pete and Perry Dye design.
I like that it’s a break from tradition. I missed the fescue when it was cut down last season. I know the reps from Titleist love the place.
The reason given for why the course will never host an Open is too much competition from Winged Foot, Bethpage and Shinnecock, which makes a lot of sense. You also have to consider there’s no room for spectators and no room for more than a couple of cars on the road in.
