Andrew Svoboda closed with an 8-under 64 on Sunday to win the Price Cutter Charity Championship, a Web.com Tour event in Springfield, Mo. The 33-year-old former Larchmont resident was 22-under for the tournament and won by three shots.
“It was a great final day,” the former St. John’s standout said of his first victory as a touring professional. “I’ve played in four U.S. Opens and won a lot as an amateur, but this is the greatest feeling for me.”
Svoboda earned a PGA Tour card last summer when he finished among the top 25 money winners on the Web.com Tour. He’s only made four cuts in 17 starts on the PGA Tour so far. The win gives Svoboda a chance to play in the new fall series and retain his PGA Tour status for another season.
“This really came out of nowhere,” he said. “It wasn’t very long ago that I was telling my caddie I wasn’t sure if I was going to play golf anymore. It’s a crazy game.”
