Nicole Morales signed a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, and is now officially committed to play at the University of Alabama. The South Salem resident who is finishing up her final year of high school at Lake Mary Prep in Florida, plans to major in communications with an emphasis on sports while minoring in English lit.
“Oh my gosh, this is a dream come true,” Morales said by phone. “This has been a year in the making. I gave them a verbal commitment last November, and now I can say I’m officially going to Alabama. I can talk with my coach now any time without restrictions. This is a process. Everything is falling in line and I’m very grateful.”
Morales was among five players from the Mike Bender Golf Academy who signed at Lake Mary Prep, and she is taking full advantage of her surroundings and works on her game daily.
“I’m usually done with school by noon each day, then I head straight for the golf course, and I play until dark,” she said.
The next big event on the competitive calendar is the Polo Golf Junior Classic at PGA National later this month. Her stint as an AJGA player representative ends there.
