Wanna bet a lot of members and caddies at Winged Foot and Old Oaks were hiding in plain site, constantly re-checking their smartphones over the weekend? Andrew Svoboda made the most of his screen time at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The former Larchmont resident tied for second, a career-best finish on the PGA Tour, with a 17-under total and won nearly $600,000. He played at Winged Foot and worked at Old Oaks prior to getting established on tour.
Svoboda, who matched the course record at TPC Louisiana with an opening-round 64, vaulted up to 71st on the FedEx Cup points list.
The former MGA player of the year did not wilt under the pressure. Svoboda landed in the final group on Saturday, and delivered a 2-under round of 70. The St. John’s alum closed with a 3-under 69, finishing two shots behind first-time winner Seung-Yul Noh.
