He was extremely optimistic heading into the week, and Metropolis head pro Craig Thomas followed through, finishing tied for low club pro honors at the 75th PGA Championship at The Golf Club at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Mich.
The 50-year-old from White Plains closed with a 72 and was 3-over for the championship, matching Bob Friend, who is the director of golf Pikewood National Golf Club in Morgantown with a 287 total. They were tied for 33rd.
“I started every round wanting to put up a good number and once I made the cut, Saturday and Sunday felt like a little bit of a bonus,” Thomas said. “It was a little bit easier, a little bit freer, you’re really not worried about what the number is going to be, 2 or 3 or 4 over you go out and play golf and make a few putts and see what you do.”
