Somers sophomore Christian Cavaliere shot a 4-over-par 75 Sunday to lead the Section 1 team to second place after one round of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association boys championship at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course on the Cornell University campus.
Four players were tied for the lead after shooting 2-over 73.
Cavaliere is in a two-way tie for sixth.
Ardsley sophomore Brent Ito, the Section 1 champion, and Scarsdale junior Josh Goldberg were among five players tied for eighth after shooting 76. Bronxville’s Connor Daly finished the round tied for 13th, shooting 77. Scarsdale’s James Nicholas and Bronxville’s Matt Bettino were among eight tied for 23rd at 79. Scarsdale’s Anthony Scarcella, John Jay’s Bear Carlson, and Harrison’s Justin Stagg were in a group of five tied for 43rd at 82.
Section 1 shot a 544 as a team on the par-71 course. Section 5 leads the way, shooting a 540.
The medals will be awarded on Monday when the second and final round begins at 7:30 a.m.
