Colin Amaral shot a 5-under 67 at Brae Burn Country Club on Monday and leads the Metropolitan Professional Championship by a stroke.
The Metropolis assistant had eight birdies and three bogeys. He’s a shot in front of Garden City head pro Bob Rittberger, who also played Brae Burn. They will play Fairview Country Club on Tuesday, weather permitting.
Patriot Hills director of golf Dave Fusco and Old Oaks head pro Bobby Heins were among the seven players tied for third at 3-under. Rob Labritz, the director of golf at GlenArbor and two-time defending champion, opened with a 73.
The field will be cut to low 60 and ties after Tuesday’s round, and the final round will be played on Wednesday at Brae Burn. The top 11 finishers qualify for the PGA Professional National Championship next June at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
