Cameron Young has been selected to play for the U.S. team in next month’s Junior Ryder Cup at Blairgowrie Golf Club
in Perthshire, Scotland. The 17-year-old from Scarborough was a captains pick, and will be among the six boys and six girls on the squad. Young is currently at the U.S. Amateur in Atlanta, and was in fifth place after the first round of stroke play qualifying.
The senior at Fordham Prep will join Sam Burns of Shreveport, La., Neale of Trabuco Canyon, Calif., Austin Connelly of Irving, Texas, Brad Dalke of Hobart, Okla., Davis Riley of Hattiesburg, Miss. Kristen Gillman of Austin, Texas, Bethany Wu of Diamond Bar, Calif., Andrea Lee of Hermosa Beach, Calif., Amy Lee of Brea, Calif.,
Sierra Brooks of Sorrento, Fla., and Hannah O’Sullivan of Paradise Valley, Ariz.
Young, who is committed to play at Wake Forest, recently finished sixth at the Junior PGA Championship and lost in the first round of match play at the U.S. Junior Amateur.
The ninth Junior Ryder Cup is to be played Sept. Sept. 22-23. There will also be a Friendship Match played Sept. 24 at Gleneagles Resort, which is the site of the 2014 Ryder Cup. The U.S. won the Junior Ryder Cup a third consecutive time in 2012 by a 14.5-9.5 margin at Olympia Fields outside Chicago.
