The high school golf all-star and all-county teams were released for both the boys and girls today. The three big winners were Scarsdale’s James Nicholas, Pearl River’s Glenn Watson and Carmel’s Lauren Peter.
Nicholas won the state championship by one shot to cap a terrific three-sport high school career. He was a two-time Journal News hockey player of the year, but the Westchester/Putnam golfer of the year honor was his first for his effort on the links.
Watson earned the Rockland player of the year award after achieving his third and final career goal: winning the Rockland County championship. The victory gave the Pearl River senior the edge in a narrow race among Rockland’s best players.
Peter, who is just a freshman, showed her precociousness, winning the Section 1 championship by a shot with a birdie at the 36th hole. The 15-year old, who is already a winner on the AJGA circuit, went on to place second at states, falling just a shot short of a playoff.
