Sam Bernstein suffered two bogeys on the way in Thursday, finishing in a tie for second place at the New York State Golf Association Men’s Amateur Championship at Turning Stone Resort.
The Century member closed with a 2-over 74 on the Kaluhyat Course and wound up two shots behind Oak Hill’s Trevor Sluman, who finished with a 4-under total of 284.
Bernstein, who graduated from Yale in 2014 and was laid up over the winter after tearing his ACL in a pick-up basketball game, was leading when the day started. He shot a 1-over 73 before lunch and fell into a tie for third, just two shots off the lead.
It was a long day for Sleepy Hollow’s Cameron Young, who tumbled into the field when he carded an 80 in Round 3. The Wake Forest signee closed with a 76 to finish in eighth place at 10-over.
